    Next Generation Products (NGP) is part of British American Tobacco Group, focused on developing and delivering high quality nicotine alternatives to adult smokers in the key areas of Vapour and Tobacco Heating Products. In NGPs, our aim is to provide consumers with a compelling range of inspiring products that drive change. This means developing products that meet consumer needs and, by driving change, will reduce the public health impact of tobacco.

    The responsibility of this role is to lead the continuous improvement of THP devices to improve product quality and reduce product cost.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:

    • Lead R&D continuous improvement projects such as:

      1. Briefing device development to external partners

      2. Project manage initiatives ensuring progress to plan / budget

      3. Facilitate design reviews and manage relevant stage gate documentation

      4. Communicate project status to stakeholders and Senior Management

      5. Support commercialization stage

    • Conduct root cause analysis into device quality issues and product returns

    • Develop design solutions to address product quality and / or performance issues

    • Review and manage device engineering documentation including engineering drawings, test reports and technical manuals

    • Lead the development of design verification tests to ensure that new designs are robust and will prove reliable in the field

    • To influence and coordinate cross functional teams including internal and key external partnerships critical in the delivery of projects and initiatives so as to have most effective use of internal/external resource and expertise

    • To operate as an advisor and collaborator with the wider NGP space to build robustness and technical capability


    Job Benefits and Offers

    • Base salary from £43,200 to £54,000 per year, depending of relevant experience

    Job Requirements

    • Equivalent to Beng Mechanical Engineering degree or Materials/Physics Degree.

    • Experience in the design of high volume consumer electronics products

    • Experience in designing injection moulded components

    • Experience in preparing engineering specifications

    • Good knowledge of manufacturing technologies and design for manufacture

    • Good knowledge of testing and measuring techniques for product quality and product performance

    • Good understanding of quality management including APQP

    • Experience in project management ideally Prince2 practitioner

    • Excellent problem solving skills and experience in using a variety of fault finding techniques

    • Good overall communication skills including report writing and presentations

    • Good leadership skills and an ability to produce clear and simple plans

    Desired Skills

    • Experience in the use of CAD packages, specifically Solidworks but others also desirable

    • Experience in preparing engineering drawings

    • Knowledge of thermodynamics together with experience of using FEA for modelling would be beneficial

    • Good knowledge of materials science and experience in selecting materials for given applications

    • Knowledge of ISO 13485 is desirable

    • Knowledge of PCB designs and batteries would be desirable

    • V-model method for validation planning

    • The ability to setup production processes including scrap, rework and reclaim parameters
