Job Description
The Purpose of this job is to support the delivery of professional, client-focused services, partnering with managers to implement food security analysis in line with WFP corporate priorities
Within delegated authority, the National Economic & Market Analyst (Vulnerability & Mapping Officer) will be responsible for the following duties. The incumbent is expected to work in coordination with relevant units within the Regioanl Bureau in Cairo, Vulnerability & Mapping Officers (VAM Officers) at the headquarter as well as Country Offices (COs).
Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Produce/adapt market monitoring tools for Country Offices to facilitate the monitoring and reporting in a standardized and comparable manner
Advise on Country Offices’ food security and market monitoring information products
Assist COs with regular and standard market monitoring in L2/L3 countries and where capacity is limited
Conduct socio-economic studies in coordination with Headquarter and Country Offices.
Participate in market assessments in Country Offices to assess feasibility of cash-based transfer programmes
Support the Cash Working Group at the Regional Bureau and Country Offices level with ad hoc analyses, including food and minimum expenditure basket calculation, supply chain and inter-sectorial assessments, etc.
Conduct training on economic analysis for Country Offices staff, to conduct advanced studies and analyses relevant to their Country Office.
Provide on-the-job training to Country Office VAM Officers/focal points for effective market monitoring and market assessments
Conduct training and information sessions for government staff to augment their capacity, foster the partnership and build up on each other’s comparative advantages.
Manage information and data inputted to and disseminated through SNAP, ensure data quality
Revise the methodology and create of scenarios using SISMod (Shock Impact Simulation Model), testing its validity
Explore further applications of SISMod for program and policy informing in the contexts of countries in the region.
Contribute to technical discussions on the application and scalability of the SNAP with partners, governments and other relevant stakeholders.
Coach and technically support a team of SNAP analysts in targeted Country Offices and the Regional Bureau in Cairo.
Support the development and adaptation of SNAP platform for each country context, in coordination with Country Offices.
Technically advise and support the SNAP Coordinator
Contribute to Food Security and Nutrition Analysis
Provide technical support to VAM colleagues in designing and analyzing food security assessments and analysis
Provide technical support to Nutrition unit in designing and analyzing Nutrition studies/initiatives (e.g. Cost of Diet/Cost of Hunger).
Support the completion of the standardization of market and price monitoring in country offices
Support in augmenting capacity of governments partners and Country Offices staff in socio-economic analysis
Contribute to the scale-up of SNAP implementation, setting it up for the Phase 2, by carrying out the below activities:
Job Requirements
Advanced University degree in Economics, Food Security, Econometrics, Statistics or other related fields..
At least three years of progressively responsible experience, of which at least one year closely related to food security and market analysis functions.
Knowledge and Skills
Very advanced knowledge of STATA and Excel.
Knowledge of programming languages as R or Python is advantage.
Experience abroad highly desirable / high multicultural skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, courtesy, tact and ability to effectively deal with people of different nationals and culture.
Able to interact and analyze wide varieties of programme issues and statistical information.
Able to work systematically, use initiatives and good judgment and to communicate complex matters both oral and in writing.
Hard worker and fast-learner.
Can work with minimum supervision; supervise and train support staff; and to communicate in a team spirit with different people with cultural and ethnic background.
Can work under pressure and in hectic environment.
Willingness to travel.
UN experience is preferred.
