Internship Description
Under the supervision of the UNV Programme Analyst and UNV Programme Assistant, the UNV Field Unit intern will be expected to undertake tasks to support volunteer, administrative, and programme related support. As such, she/he is expected to uphold and promote the principles of the United Nations Volunteers programme.
Interns' Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Maintain up to date volunteer records of all UN volunteers assigned to the country, ensuring that all correspondence and periodic reports are properly kept, and that related matters requiring action are brought to the attention of his/her supervisor
Communicate with national and international volunteers on the hire, termination and training reimbursement procedures
Provide administrative support and follow up on UNV’s payment with finance department and notify UN Volunteers when done
Prepare UNVs packages for the orientation training (contracts, Conditions of Service, Annexes, Medical Insurance Card, UNV card)
Submit request to HQ for UNV cards, medical kits, CIGNA cards
Follow up with the pouch unit from UNDP and the hosting agencies the timely distribution of the UNVs documents (contracts, passports, UNV cards)
Provide the required support, where appropriate, to his/her supervisor in managing and monitoring UNV projects, under the supervisor’s responsibility
Provide support to the coordination of taskforce group activities, and other programme activities as and when required
Support the supervisor in activities and events promoting volunteerism in the country, including International Volunteer Day (IVD)
Draft and type programme-related correspondence
Participate in programme-related meetings and take minutes
Perform other relevant duties as may be required.
Support in writing and editing communications materials
Translate communications materials when necessary
Support in the development of audiovisual materials
Attend meetings and conferences when needed
Write stories, reports and minutes of meetings
Help with the content development of the website.
Update the communication database
Update the communications filing system
Maintain an active social media platform Facebook page, and Twitter
Internship Requirements
Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Ability to think creatively, work logically and precisely with attention to detail.
Ability to write clearly and concisely.
