To provide legal advice, guidance and support to the Commercial Banking business to ensure that the Group’s exposure to legal risk is managed
Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Provide counsel and legal support on Commercial Banking transactions and projects with a particular focus on larger clients, complex lending matters, and restructuring
To be considered to be a trusted adviser to the Commercial Banking business and the Loans Management Unit, by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner
Identify, evaluate and implement efficiencies in legal and business processes, using new technologies where appropriate, to improve the effectiveness of legal support to Commercial Banking
Be proactive in the provision of legal support and in advising the business promptly of material legal developments and their implications
Ensure legal management is fully briefed on major issues and legislative changes arising in Commercial Banking
Liaise with panel law firms and other external parties
Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within the MENA Legal and Global CMB Legal teams, and business departments for which the jobholder is responsible
Participate effectively as part of the MENA Legal team
Share legal knowledge and best practices with legal colleagues
Assist the business to remain compliant with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM
Understand the operational risk framework and the role of Legal as a Risk Steward in that framework
Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets
Job Requirements
Qualified Lawyer with in house experience
Wide knowledge and experience of banking, corporate and securities law concepts and a working knowledge of the laws in the major jurisdictions in which HSBC operates
Knowledge of the CMB business and products would be beneficial
Knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business and personnel and a clear understanding of HSBC’s corporate culture
Ability to prioritise and multitask
Communication and inter-personal skills
Developing lateral thinking/problem solving skills
