    The British Council works with over 100 countries across the world in the fields of arts, culture, education and society, English language and exams.

    Through our partnership with Cambridge English Language Assessment and IDP we deliver millions of IELTS test worldwide. Our work promoting and delivering exams underpins the international higher education student market in the UK, which is worth a total of £25.8 billion for the UK.

    Each year, we reach more than 20 million face-to-face and more than 500 million people online, via broadcasts and publications. The British Council employs over 12,000 staff worldwide. It has its headquarters in the UK, with offices in London, Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

    The British Council was founded in 1934. It is a UK-charity governed by Royal Charter and a UK public body. It is the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and education opportunities.
