    The British Embassy Dubai has a vacancy for an International Export Finance Manager (IEFM) under the Department for International Trade (DIT).

    The IEFM will support and develop the engagement with international sponsors and associated stakeholder networks to enable export growth through the provision of trade finance and credit insurance available from UK Export Finance (UKEF). The IEFM will support UK Export Finance teams in UK, DIT colleagues in Middle East, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (MEAP) and other third parties to provide this specialist market advice.

    As a member of the DIT in-country team based in Dubai, UAE, the IEFM will also be required to support MEAP DIT Trade Advisors to develop UKEF engagement within the MEAP region, encouraging the MEAP DIT team to remain alert to the potential for export finance support within all trade opportunities that arise.

    The International Network Manager IEFM will engage with the DIT management team and the UKEF Business Group management to deliver the aims of the International Business Development (IBD) Team, UK Export Finance, HMTC’s Regional Trade Plan, and DIT as a whole.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:

      Build awareness of UKEF support capabilities

    • Support actions to raise the profile of UKEF internationally through engagement with the business community, government bodies, and other stakeholder organisations.

    • Support the delivery of UKEF marketing plans, ensuring that messages are appropriate to the audience. Remove complexity and build understanding.

    • Support the development and implementation of PR activities that educate the business community on UKEF products.

    • Build and share market knowledge

    • Develop detailed knowledge of public and private sector frameworks and organisations, including their strategic business planning and development objectives based on the priorities of UKEF Sector teams and IBD. Present findings for strategic consideration.

    • Build knowledge of host government trade policy, priority sectors, and High Value Campaign (HVC) status.

    • Support timely export intelligence and insight for IBD, enabling opportunities for UKEF.

    • Enable sharing of UKEF advice and guidance within local DIT teams.

    • Engage in leveraging expertise, knowledge, and networks of local staff, business chambers, and other local channels in their capacity as multipliers.

    • Map the competitive framework (Export Credit Agencies [ECA] and supply chain).

    • Gather intelligence of local commercial banking sector focus and appetite for risk.

    • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships

    • Build effective business networks and develop calling plans to enhance the profile of UKEF.

    • Develop mechanisms to record and coordinate business outreach activities.

    • Develop regular contacts with local sponsors, banks, public sector, government bodies, and UK business to identify export opportunities that could benefit from UKEF support.

    • Create and deliver strategic plans

    • Support UKEF country strategic planning, aligned to UKEF organisational objectives, supporting HVCs where ‘leading with finance’ could be an important driver.

    • Progress business development opportunities

    • Assist UKEF local campaign activities.

    • Engage the UK Export Finance Manager (EFM) Network to ensure seamless coordination between the UK supply chain and local sponsor.

    • Support the development of UKEF local relationships with providers of trade finance and risk mitigation products (e.g., banks, credit insurers, brokers, and others) and to introduce customers/ sponsors who require their services.

    • Support UKEF collaboration with the local DIT team to help develop innovative export solutions for UK companies.

    Job Requirements

    • Knowledge of ECA instruments and experience of trade finance.

    • Experience in modern international trade practice. Current and relevant commercial skills, well versed in contracting and finance.

      Evidence of advisory and negotiation skills. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.

      Ability to coordinate and contribute to strategy development and business planning.

      Experience of navigating emerging/ growth markets with the ability to support complex financial service projects.

      Capability to work independently in a sector servicing exporters in financial and credit risk products; or in relevant role in exporting business.

      Excellent relationship development skills, capable of operating at all organisational levels. Experience of developing relationships and building influence with multiple stakeholders in public and private sectors. Recognises the importance of developing a strong business network.

      Cultural awareness and business knowledge of the relevant market. Functional knowledge of local business community and trends.

      Competent in Microsoft Office applications.

      Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

    Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

    • Experience of working in international markets with an understanding of the UK trade agenda.

    • Background in commercial contracting and finance.

    • An understanding of the regulatory macroeconomic and political situation in the relevant markets.

    • Knowledge of UKEF’s credit risk policy and environment and a good understanding of UKEF’s product range.

    • Capability to track trade flows and local UKEF statistics and performance.

    • Maturity to understand realistic expectations for the potential for UK Supply Chain to benefit from prospective projects in relevant markets.

    • Ability to access diverse stakeholders and key decision makers in government and business networks.

    • Ability to stand in for Senior Counsellor on occasion, as required.

    • Strong analytical capability.
